IOM, USAID Partner with Albay to Provide Homes to Displaced Survivors of Typhoon Reming

IOM, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
and the Provincial Government of Albay yesterday handed 60 houses
in Mauraro, Guinobatan and 50 houses in Tagaytay, Camalig to
survivors of Typhoon Reming.
The handover ceremony was attended by Albay Governor Joey Sarte
Salceda, USAID Acting Deputy Director Daniel Moore and
representatives from the Albay Mabuhay Task Force, the National
Housing Authority, the Department of Social Welfare and
Development, the Office of Civil Defense, Save the Children and
IOM.
IOM has now constructed 197 new typhoon-resistant homes and
multi-purpose community centres for survivors of the November 2006
disaster. It plans to finish approximately 680 more by the end of
September 2008.
One of the first agencies to respond to the massive internal
displacement caused by the typhoon, IOM has partnered with USAID
since the outset to contribute to the government's sustainable
recovery programme for survivors in the hardest-hit Bicol provinces
of Albay and Camarines Sur.
