Philippine Border Management Project Builds Capacity
The three-year Philippine Border Management Project (PBMP), an
initiative funded by the European Commission and implemented by
IOM, will end today with a Project Forum in Manila.
IOM launched the PBMP in 2006 in partnership with Filipino
government agencies involved in migration management, border
control and combating transnational organized
crime.
The project was designed to complement the government's existing
efforts to build national security and strengthen development by
enhancing border management capacity to effectively facilitate the
movement of people and goods.
Agencies participating in the project included the Bureau of
Immigration, Bureau of Customs, Department of Foreign Affairs,
National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Philippine Centre on
Transnational Crime and the National Economic and Development
Authority.
Achievements of the project include the development of an
Integrated Data Migration System (IDMS). The system improves the
ability of participating agencies to work together and exchange
information in real time.
